Course Spotlight: Strategic Problem Solving
Crime, risk of harm, and increasing demands for service continues to pose challenges to police, local authorities and other partner organisations across the country.
The Academy’s Strategic Problem Solving course is designed to facilitate delegates with thought leadership, around their development of strategic approaches to the complex challenges they and partners face, ultimately elevating community safety through effective problem-solving partnerships.
Why is it important?
It is easy to point to crime statistics as a leading measure of risk or harm. However, as well as crime, demand for service from the police, local authorities and other agencies often identify problem profiles which do not record as crime but continue to have a seriously negative effect on our local communities and a detrimental impact upon resource management. In such a challenging environment, the need for effective strategic partnerships becomes more obvious, when no single agency can deal with the problem profile in isolation.
What will I learn?
Lead by experienced tutor Mark O’Callaghan this course will expand your knowledge in several ways.
Strategic problem-solving embraces the use of SARA and other associated problem-solving models, whilst focusing on ensuring that the practical problem-solvers have access to the necessary resources, time, budgets etc and the overarching direction and support of their strategic decision makers.
Organisational learning, development and improvement presents challenges for many organisations. The Strategic Problem-Solving qualification emphasises the importance of on-going assessment from the outset, and throughout the problem-solving process. Effective comprehensive evaluation of a problem-solving initiative, after its completion, will present opportunities for strategic learning and organizational growth; what worked, what did not work, what could be replicated and was it value for money.
The course underpins the critical role of partnership approaches to address and manage complex issues, with understanding of how such alliances support problem-solving at a strategic level.
